I am a full-time father, facilitator, writer, and hip-hop artist. I grew up learning the structure of language from my mother who was an English teacher, but my writing journey truly began when I learned to rap at age 14. This form of creative expression saved my life as a teenager growing up in East Oakland, California and has been a lifelong tool for healing and connection. As co-founder and co-director of Youth Impact Hub Oakland, I supported the launch of over 100 youth-led social enterprise projects in my hometown. As the president of the board at La Peña Cultural Center, I co-organized hundreds of events to promote peace and social justice through the arts. As a co-organizer and co-facilitator of the Arts for Social Change Jam, I guided over a hundred artists and activists through a weeklong residential retreat. Throughout my life, I have written vulnerably about my most meaningful experiences, from my years spent traveling and working abroad to the trials and tribulations of fatherhood in which I am now fully immersed. In addition to making music, the practices of yoga, Vipassana meditation and communicating with trees have been deeply nourishing. I live with my wife and son in the northern San Francisco Bay Area where we are building a permaculture food forest.
